The 2020 Suzuki Jimny arrives with small visual touches and updated price. Until the new generation debuts, the current model receives a small facelift. The new Jimny arrives in Brazil. From what we could see, the crossover is offering improvements for its look and the cabin. As the carmaker explains, the 4Sport version now features a new bumper. Also, there is new paint on the rearview mirrors, snorkel and front grille, plus two new body colors: Baikal Blue and Litio Silver. The 4×4 badge completes the package on the sides and headlight mask.

Inside, the air-conditioner moldings and vertical panel trim have been the same color as the body. Seats are now covered with new materials and offer side and front departments for storing objects. Finally, the floor mats are now rubberized (much easier to wash). In turn, the flagship Desert version follows the news with the adoption of the same revamped headlamp masks, graphite-painted plastic coverings (including rear-view mirrors and roof rack) and redesigned wheelbars with a more rectangular shape. In the cabin, there are seats with premium trimmings and beige stitches, air vents, and unique central panel finishes.

2020 Suzuki Jimny Specs

The Brazilian version is getting a new drivetrain. It is a 1.3-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with the capability to deliver 85 hp. Also, the powertrain creates 80 lb-ft of torque (110 Nm, or 11.2 kgfm). There is only one available transmission for this crossover – a five-speed manual. On the other hand, there are three different drive modes. A 2WD is the one you want to pick for city drive. Engine delivers power to rear wheels. A 4×4 setup is a feature that makes 2020 Suzuki Jimny different from its competition. It makes the small crossover go everywhere. Optionally, you can select the unique 4WD-L system.

What is the 4WD-L System?

Finally, there is something called the 4WD-L. it is available only for the Jimny. This version of 4×4 drive will lock axles with air hubs. It is perfect for slippery terrains where you can lock the torque distribution between front and rear axle. The crossover is an RWD by default, but the power goes to front wheels when needed. The system locks front wheels to the front axle for the better traction in tough terrains.

Other Engines

A 1.3-liter unit is not the only one available for the 2020 Suzuki Jimny. The crossover also offers a 1.5-liter displacement. In this case, Jimny delivers more power and torque – 100 hp and 96 lb-ft (130 Nm, 13.3 kgfm). Again, a 5-speed manual is the only gearbox, and the vehicle achieves the max speed of 90 mph. Fuel consumption is one of the reasons why you should consider the purchase of the 2020 Jimny. It consumes less than 7 liters per 100 km in urban areas (35 mpg US, 42 mpg UK). Emissions are still pretty high and Suzuki must work to improve this.

The 2020 Suzuki Jimny is a compact crossover. It is 143 inches long with the wheelbase of 87 inches. The boxy design is eye-catching and the crossover is wider than its rivals. The new Jimny will offer 8 inches of ground clearance (200 mm), which is enough for decent off-road adventures. Total weight of this model is 2550 pounds (1160 kg).

The 2020 Jimny is the part of the fourth generation of the small off-roader which arrived in 2018. With a fresh redesign, there is no need to change too many things on the new model. The new generation brought back the classic look of the Jimny. In the previous series, Suzuki tried to modernize the look, but fans did not like it. The new one will use the body-on-frame platform, which will make it more capable for off-road tasks.

Interior

Inside, the 2020 Suzuki Jimny is a comfortable and modern vehicle. The Japanese company is not complicating things too much. Everything is simple to use and you won’t need too much time to get into all systems. Well, the compact model is not offering too much space and comfort, but again, this is not the premium and big vehicle. A 7-inch infotainment system looks even bigger in the small cockpit. Unfortunately, it is available only for higher trim levels. Well, the base interior is not going to stun you, but if you lower expectations, then you might be happy with Jimny.

The new Jimny for 2020 season is already out in Brazil. However, the vehicle is also very popular in other areas, UK, Australia, Japan, and many other regions. The arrival to the US shores is still an option, especially now with the new engine. This market needs a subcompact off-roader to compete with Jeep Renegade. However, the appearance is not so likely, especially since Suzuki missed to bring it over here when the Jimny hit the new generation in 2018.
