2021 Toyota Sequoia Interior, Platinum, TRD Pro

After the mild facelift in 2020, we don’t expect big changes in the 2021 Toyota Sequoia. This is the largest non-premium SUV by the Japanese company. If you are willing to spend more money, we recommend Land Cruiser or Lexus LX. Still, the entire lineup of big rigs is very old and the carmaker will have to do something quick to refresh them. New generations are on the way, but none of them will appear before 2024.

The new Sequoia got the TRD Pro package. This is a big step and we will see how will buyers react to this. Experts are not optimistic since the full-size model records the slowest sales in the manufacturer’s lineup. It is even doubtful if the big redesign could revive the interest. Well, its rivals are confident the new Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, Nissan Armada, and upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer have a future in the market.

2021 Toyota Sequoia Engine

The 2021 Toyota Sequoia is powered by a huge V8 engine. Its main downside is the fuel consumption – 15 mpg combined is not something that will draw the attention of buyers. On the other hand, reliability and power are definitely reasons why you should consider the Sequoia a good buy. With 380 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, it can tow nearly 9,000 pounds. It is above the class average. Plus, a 5.7-liter displacement provides enough power for off-road adventures. Now, in combination with the TRD Pro package, it will definitely be one to watch in 2021.

New Engine is On the Way

It is not going to happen next year, but Toyota will replace a grumpy V8 very soon. According to the latest rumors about Lexus LX and Land Cruiser, two SUVs that use the same powerplant, the carmaker will test a turbocharged V6. It will improve fuel consumption. But, what about the towing capacity and off-road capability? Ford Expedition is getting power from a twin-turbo V6 and it is a class leader with 9,300 pounds of towing potential. So, the proper tuning can fix all the downsides of the size decrease. There are no too many details about the development of the V6 because it won’t happen before the full-size SUVs start the new generations.

No Diesel For 2021 Toyota Sequoia

For a long time, buyers asked about the diesel engine for the full-size model. However, Toyota made it clear – there won’t be Tundra with such drivetrain. By missing a diesel in the most important segment and the class where it works the best, there is no reason to hope the new 2021 Toyota Sequoia will be the exception. At least we have an official statement after a long time.

2021 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro

The biggest update for the current version is the new trim level. We knew the company will upgrade the lineup of its off-roaders. Until the Sequoia became a team member, we had 4Runner SUV and two trucks with the TRD Pro package. This off-road suite lifts vehicles and makes them more capable of going anywhere. Plus, the company upgrades suspension, brakes, and tires, with the heavy-duty parts. Fox shocks, dual exhaust system, and skidplates are elements that will make the 2021 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro better than other off-road SUVs.

Android Auto Joins the Party, New Infotainment System is on the Way

After a long time, Toyota gave up. The Japanese company figured out that their infotainment system, no matter how good it was, can’t cope with the two most popular services. In 2018, Toyota added Apple CarPlay to its EnTune system, and last year they announced that Android Auto will be part of the options in 2020. The 2021 Toyota Sequoia will have both of them.

In the future, the carmaker plans to bring the new infotainment system. It is about to improve safety and voice commands. Well, it also has something to do with the planned development of the autonomous drive. But, this seems to be a top secret, since we have zero information about this project.

2021 Toyota Sequoia Trim Levels and Prices

The new 2021 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro is definitely the star of the lineup. However, it boosts the price of the SUV which starts below $50,000 for the base unit. The off-road suite adds $15,000, but it is not the most expensive version in the lineup. Sequoia Platinum is a premium offer with luxurious cabin and features. A lighter off-road package, TRD Sport, is also available. However, for a $3,000 upgrade to the base model, you cannot expect too much. Limited is the mid-range offer and it costs $60,000.

The TRD Pro model comes with a unique Army Green paintjob. White, gray, and black are other options if you choose this one. Red and Blue Pearl is available for other versions, while the interior depends on the materials in the cabin. All models will come with leather upholstery.
