The next generation of Chevy’s largest SUV is on the way and should hit the market this summer. The 2021 Chevy Suburban has already been presented and we can see significant improvements in various aspects. First of all, there is a completely new design, based on the company’s latest design language. Also, the new model rides on a new platform, which saves hundreds of pounds and also improves ride quality, thanks to completely new suspension setup.

Furthermore, there is one interesting addition to the list engines, in the form of a turbodiesel engine. The new 2021 Chevy Suburban also packs loads of new technology features, including a new infotainment system and advanced safety features. There are also notable changes in terms of dimensions, although not as significant as in Tahoe. Still, you may count on a longer wheelbase, more interior space, bigger cargo area and more. As we’ve just mentioned, the new model should hit the market this summer.

2021 Chevy Suburban Redesign

This redesign brings a lot of interesting and very important novelties. First of all, there is a new platform. Of course, we are talking about the new T1 architecture, which debuted last year with the new Silverado. One of the biggest benefits this platform brings is weight reduction, as the new 2021 Chevy Suburban is lighter for about 300 pounds. Moreover, it brings a completely new suspension setup, which is particularly interesting in the rear end. For the first time, this SUV comes with an independent rear suspension, which should significantly improve comfort, handling and overall driving experience.

In terms of dimensions, the new model is notably bigger. First of all, it gains about 1.3 inches in overall lengths, while a longer wheelbase seems more important in this case. It now goes around 134.1 inches, which is 4.1 inches longer than before. As you may presume, this brings significant benefits in terms of interior space and we will get on this in a minute.

Styling

Naturally, the new generation comes with new styling as well. The 2021 Chevy Suburban comes with a completely new look, which is based on the company’s new design language, introduced with the current-generation Silverado. The front end is pretty much identical, with just a couple of minor tweaks. On the other side, the overall shape remains kind familiar. Of course, we are talking about a recognizable, wagon-like body, which ensures loads of interior space. The boxy shape makes this SUV look rugged, while some of the most notable differences are shorter overhangs, which provide a sportier look than before. Also, you may expect that each trim level will come with a couple of exclusive details, while a new, off-road version is also expected, with a plethora of new styling solutions.

Interior

The new cabin comes with big novelties in various aspects. Of course, the first that comes to mind is a new dashboard design. The new cabin looks far more upscale compared to the previous model. There is a new 10-inch touchscreen, while you can also get things like an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, 15-inch head-up display etc.

Still, changes in terms of dimensions seem more important in this case. Thanks to a longer wheelbase, each row comes with more legroom. You may count on an additional 2.2 inches in the third row and 2.3 inches in the second row. Also, the amount of cargo room behind the third row now goes up to 41.5 cubic feet, which is 2.2 cubic feet more than before. Still, the biggest improvement by far is the overall cargo volume, which now goes all-away up to  144.7 cubic feet. That is 23 inches more compared to the outgoing model.

2021 Chevy Suburban Engines

Under the hood, the biggest novelty is the addition of a familiar turbodiesel. Of course, we are talking about a well-known 3.0-liter V6 diesel, which puts out around 277 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. That’s a quite respectable amount of power, which should ensure quite decent driving dynamics. Moreover, this will be a great alternative for all those drivers who appreciate high mpg ratings.

The rest of the lineup is about to remain the same, which means you may count on two familiar V8 units. Of course, we are talking about 5.3- and 6.2-liter units, which will remain the same in terms of power and torque. That means you may count on 355 and 420 horses, respectively.

All engines will come in pair with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
