2022 GMC Terrain Facelift: AT4, Release date, Interior, Colors, Price, SLT

After the one-year delay, because of the Coronavirus, the facelift of GMC’s compact crossover is finally on the way. It will bring a lot of interesting updates, mostly in terms of the styling. We are about to see a new front face, as well as revisions in other areas. The interior updates are mostly about new upholstery, but we should also mention new features, such as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. At this point, details about the powertrain are still unavailable but we hope that the company will bring back a more potent option. Finally, there is the new AT4 version. The 2022 GMC Terrain should arrive in the summer.

Despite the updates, we have no doubt that the overall layout will remain the same. The 2022 GMC Terrain will continue to deliver familiar characteristics, such as smooth ride, spacious cabin and good fuel economy. When it comes to things we don’t like about this compact crossover, we should mention things like a small cargo area, high starting price etc.

2022 GMC Terrain Redesign

In terms of base design characteristics, this update will bring a lot of novelties, particularly in terms of styling. The new version has already been presented and it shows a lot of new details. The most prominent is the new, wider and bolder grille, as well as more angular headlights. The front bumper has also been revised and the whole front end of the vehicle now looks bolder and more aggressive. Of course, the 2022 GMC Terrain will also come with typical mid-cycle updates, such as new wheels, color options etc.

On the other side, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle will remain pretty much the same. That seems okay, considering that the current generation has been around for less than three years. The ride quality is good, especially if comfort is your main concern. On the other side, more ambitious drivers won’t find its handling particularly engaging.

Interior

Unlike the exterior, this aspect won’t bring that many changes, though we are about to see some interesting things. The first thing we should mention is that the 2022 GMC Terrain will come with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Furthermore, you may count on new upholstery and color schemes in the offer. On the other side, the overall cabin layout remains the same. This SUV looks nice from the inside, though there are few areas covered with cheap plastics. For that reason, several models in class feature higher interior quality.

If you can live with that, this cabin is actually a really nice place. It looks good and it offers plenty of space. Both rows accommodate adults with ease, while the driving position is very good. Furthermore, we really like the sound insulation, which makes the ride really pleasant.

On the other side, the cargo area isn’t that impressive. You may count on about 29.6 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 63.3 cubic feet, which is far away from class leaders like Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester etc.

2022 GMC Terrain AT4

One of the biggest novelties for the next year will be the introduction of the 2022 GMC Terrain AT4 model. This version will come with a couple of interesting upgrades, which should make it more capable off the road. It comes with typical AT4 aesthetics we’ve seen in other GMC models, such as the blacked grille and similar things. On the other side, you won’t find too many upgrades in terms of off-road hardware. Practically, all you get are things like standard AWD, front skid plate and upgraded tires.

2022 GMC Terrain Engines

Last year, GMC removed the optional 2.0-liter engine from the offer. So, the current 2021 model is available only with the base 1.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 170 horsepower. While it’s definitely powerful enough for daily commuting, it definitely won’t please more ambitious drivers. That’s why we hope that 2022 GMC could once again come with the bigger option in the offer. We presume that would be a new version of the 2.0-liter unit, which puts out around 230 horsepower and offers better fuel economy compared to the previous variant.

Speaking of the fuel economy, the base engine stands pretty well. It returns around 25 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, which is decent for the class. A 9-speed automatic transmission is standard and it generally works well, though it can hesitate to shift sometimes.

2022 GMC Terrain Release Date and Price

The latest reports suggest the 2022 GMC Terrain could hit the market already this summer. When it comes to the price, base models should go around 28/29.000 dollars, which is slightly above average for the segment. The range-topping Denali model will probably hit the market later in the year, most likely in the third quarter of 2021.
