The 2020 Cadillac XT9 concept will debut next year. This is the largest SUV in the XT lineup. The first of a kind, XT5 had a big success which now leads to the lineup expansion. Well, we already have XT4 and XT6. Soon, there will be larger and smaller models. However, Cadillac Escalade remains the largest model and the flagship SUV. The XT9 might be the sportier, maybe coupe-like version.
Cadillac will follow the trends of Audi and BMW models. Recently both companies obtained rights to have complete crossover/SUV lineups from 1-9 (Audi Q, and BMW X). Now, the US carmaker is doing the same with its premium squad of these vehicles. There are a lot of theories what will happen with Escalade with the arrival of the 2020 Cadillac XT9. We still don’t have the answer to this question. Everything will be clearer once the SUV becomes official. Some rumors are mentioning an electric vehicle, while some are reporting the XT9 is a coupe SUV.
2020 Cadillac XT9 All Rumors At One Place
So, there are speculations linked to the body style and the engine of the new 2020 Cadillac XT9. All you can read in this review are just rumors since the carmaker is not giving too many clues about the XT lineup. Well, their intention is obvious. They will have the complete lineup XT1 to XT9 eventually. The growth of the crossover and SUV market is incredible. These are the best-selling vehicles and all companies are heavily investing in this segment.
The 2020 Cadillac XT9 will be the largest one. One thing is sure – the SUV will have three rows of seats. Is it going to be bigger than Escalade? No, in any way. The SUV is a mixture of the flagship model and the XT styling.
Another interesting theory is about the drivetrain. The big rig needs a lot of power. The premium model could go after an electric configuration. General Motors, the parent company, is after such units in all other segments. So, the appearance of the all-electric 2020 Cadillac XT9 is not a surprise. We still need to see if it is going to be a hybrid or an EV. The company must meet high demands of buyers of full-size three-row SUVs. Either setup must pay more attention to performance, rather than fuel economy. Well, whoever is ready to spend over $80,000 is not asking too much about the consumption.
2020 Cadillac XT9 Concept
It is a long way before the 2020 Cadillac XT9 enters the production. We mentioned earlier that XT5 opened the door to the rest of the lineup. But, Cadillac is doing it a step by step. First, the company developed a slightly larger and smaller model. These are XT6 and XT4. Now, they will work on subcompact premium crossover and a luxury SUV between the mid- and full-size class. But, the platform for the new XT9 could debut next year, according to rumors.
2020 Cadillac XT9 vs Escalade
The difference between two big rigs is the main topic of discussions. Cadillac Escalade is the most important model in the SUV lineup, and probably among all vehicles with this badge. The entire industry is sure that carmaker can’t replace the famous nameplate with another XT logo. It doesn’t have soul, history… But, by replacing the Escalade, the new SUV would inherit all its fans and enthusiasts who can’t wait for big changes. But, besides the rebadging, Cadillac will need a lot of other changes to keep attention and sales.
It is more likely that 2020 Cadillac XT9 will be based on Escalade. The same platform and drivetrains are kick start. We can see a lot of differences between XT lineup design language and the premium big SUV. The new model would mix these two to gain the popularity of both nameplates. It is a clever plan, but does Cadillac need another big rig? Premium models with high price are not among the best-selling vehicles. Also, they can’t match the versatility of a smaller SUV. So, the entire concept is still mystic.
2020 Cadillac XT9 Release Date and Price
So, the 2020 Cadillac XT9 is still a concept which will have a premiere next year. It can happen at any time. But, the company is not going to rush, so the platform could come with the new format of the Detroit Auto Show. The price of the XT9 will be more approachable than for the Cadillac Escalade. The SUV is new and that is still a good reason to bump it. Starting above $70,000 won’t make too many buyers purchase it, whenever the SUV appears.
If it happens the premium model comes out as the EV, then the cost will have a six-digit code. We still believe that V8 is a good option. The XT9 might not get a 6.2-liter displacement, but a 5.3-liter unit with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. That is 65 ponies and nearly 80 pound-feet less than Escalade.
