The new Korean luxury brand is becoming a serious player in the world of premium cars, as we are seeing further expansion of the lineup. The latest addition is a model called 2021 Genesis GV80, which represents this company in the segment of mid-size SUVs. Designed to compete with models like BMW X5 and Mercedes Benz GLE, the GV80 will try to attract buyers with a fantastic balance between price and quality.

2021 Genesis GV80 Redesign
The 2021 Genesis GV80 is an all-new model. It comes as a mid-size luxury crossover, so it’s no wonder it shares a lot of parts with the G80 luxury sedan. The two models ride on the same platform and feature a very similar chassis setup. Of course, we are talking about an RWD layout, which many see as the most important thing for the premium driving experience. In terms of the styling, the connection between the two models is even more obvious, as the two vehicles share the brand’s design language almost entirely. Just one look at the front and you can see the same two-tier headlights, along with the same massive grille.
On the other side, the front bumper has been tweaked for a bit, in order to suit a crossover more. On the other side, the rest of the vehicle comes in a typical SUV manner. This is a classic SUV, so you won’t find sloping roofs or similar things here.
Interior
The cabin is definitely one of the most impressive aspects of this SUV. Just one look is enough to realize that this interior offers plenty of luxury. First of all, the materials are fantastic and pretty much on par with any other model in the class in terms of quality. Furthermore, the aesthetics are really impressive. In the past, Korean manufacturers struggled to make a good looking dashboard, without odd styling elements. This time, things are completely different, as the 2021 Genesis GV80 looks very elegant and there are really no things to complain about. The dashboard looks even more impressive thanks to the presence of loads of hi-tech features. There is a massive infotainment screen, while the center console is massive and full of things like rotary knobs and other fancy details.
Besides great quality and attractive design, this cabin will also be practical and functional. With more than 116 inches in wheelbase, the 2021 Genesis GV80 offers plenty of legroom in the first and second row, while the third row seems decent as well. Still, the third row will be an option, while base models will come with seating capacity for five. Another optional feature will be second-row captain’s chairs. We still don’t know the exact numbers for the cargo area, but we presume these will also be pretty respectable.
2021 Genesis GV80 Engine
When it comes to the powertrain, the 2021 Genesis GV80 comes in two versions. Base models are equipped with a new 2.5-liter turbo-four. That’s the same engine you can find in the G80, which puts out 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. That’s a quite respectable amount of power, which ensures pretty solid acceleration and overall performances.
Still, if you’re looking for something peppier, something really exciting, there is also a new 3.5-liter turbo V6 engine, also available in G80, which puts out 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. In our opinion, this engine is definitely worth the extra sum.
Both engines come in pair with an 8-speed transmission, which sends power to rear wheels in standard versions, while AWD is also available. Details about the fuel economy are yet to come.
2021 Genesis GV80 Release Date and Price
The production of 2021 Genesis GV80 started this April. When it comes to the price, base versions go slightly under 50.000 dollars. On the other side, models with the V6 engine start at 60.000.
The competition in the segment is really tough. We’ve already mentioned some of the segment leaders, such as BMW X5 and Mercedes Benz GLE, and 2021 Genesis GV80 definitely looks like a great alternative, especially in terms of price. Speaking about the price, we think that the new SUV will rather compete with more affordable SUVs in the segments, particularly with models like Acura MDX, Lexus RX and similar models, where GV80’s RWD layout should be an obvious advantage.
